North Sydney has two faces. Around the business district, apartment towers bring balconies, podiums and shared courtyards that need container planting and screening. Down toward the harbour at Kirribilli, Cremorne and Waverton, established homes sit on steep sandstone blocks with water views, tight access and gardens that fall away sharply toward the foreshore.

We plan for both. On the harbour blocks that means terracing and retaining to create level, usable garden, working with the sandstone and protecting the view. On the apartment side it means planter systems, screening and irrigation that keep greenery alive in wind and sun. Access is often the hardest part, and we plan it before we start.

I had to completely refurbish my apartment veranda. A lot of work repotting 15 huge troughs and pots and I was quite particular about the soil I wanted.
