Soil worth working with
On the older blocks, ground that was cultivated for decades can be genuinely good, deep and workable in a way most of western Sydney is not. Where that exists we build on it rather than importing soil, which saves real money.
Riverstone has some of the best garden soil in western Sydney and some of the worst, often within a few streets. A century of market gardening built one, and recent subdivision scraped the other.
Riverstone sits about 48 kilometres north-west of the city in Blacktown City. It was a country town built around a meatworks that operated from 1878 until 1992, poultry farming and intensive market gardening remain locally important, and former farmland was released for housing from 2014.
On the older blocks, ground that was cultivated for decades can be genuinely good, deep and workable in a way most of western Sydney is not. Where that exists we build on it rather than importing soil, which saves real money.
On the 2014 and later releases the topsoil was stripped during civil works and what is left is subsoil and fill. Those blocks need the profile rebuilt before anything is planted, and the difference between the two situations is thousands of dollars.
This area has a serious flood history, including homes along Marsden Road going under in 2021. On the low blocks we deal with where water goes before building anything, and we are honest about what is worth putting in.
Old village blocks, small working properties and new release land, each scoped quite differently.
New lawn over ground prepared to suit what is actually there. On old cultivated soil that is often minimal work, and on a scraped release block it means rebuilding the profile first.
How we lay new turfWalls to hold the step between pads on a new release, or to terrace an older block with a natural fall into level usable yard.
How we build retaining wallsAlfresco areas, paths and driveway edges paved to a level, free-draining finish, with the base built for the ground underneath rather than to a standard detail.
How we approach pavingMulch at a depth that holds moisture through a hot summer. On a new exposed block with no canopy this is doing real work rather than finishing the look.
More on mulchingScreening hedges on the compact new lots where houses sit close together, and the long boundary runs on the older village and farm blocks.
How we trim hedgesShaping young trees on new blocks, and reducing established farm-era trees on the older properties to keep them in proportion and clear of structures.
See our pruning and trimmingBeds, paving joints, gravel and fence lines cleared back to a clean finish, roots included. Fertile old soil grows weeds just as well as it grows everything else.
More on weedingOld fencing, cleared growth, farm leftovers, construction debris and green waste taken away. On an older property this is often the whole first stage.
See our rubbish removalRemoving a farm-era tree that has failed or sits too close to a structure. Where approval is needed through Blacktown City we flag it at quoting stage.
About our tree lopping workWhat the soil is actually like, and whether the block floods.
Three steps, a fixed written price, and the block left clean.
Call or send photos, and say roughly how old the property is and whether water has ever come through. Both change what we would recommend.
We dig a test hole, check the levels, the drainage and the clearing, then put a fixed written price and a staged plan in front of you.
One crew from start to finish, all cleared material removed by the load, and the driveway and paths swept down.
Terry and his team are fantastic to work with.
The team have been very professional with their work, communication and they were also fast paced.
They use very high quality materials and workmanship is flawless.

On the older cultivated blocks it genuinely can be. A century of market gardening leaves deep workable soil that most of western Sydney does not have, and where it exists we build on it rather than importing new soil, which saves you money.
Because the topsoil was stripped during the civil works and what is left is subsoil and fill. It looks like dirt but it will not support planting. Rebuilding the profile is the first job and everything after it depends on that.
Yes, considerably. We deal with where water goes first, and we will tell you plainly what is not worth planting on low ground rather than selling you something that will be lost in the next event.
With clearing, as its own stage. We assess the volume on site, remove it by the load, then look at levels and drainage before anything is built or planted.
On a new block, yes if the budget allows. One visit costs less per square metre than two and the levels and drainage can be set out as a single system.
Yes. We work across Riverstone 2765 and the surrounding Blacktown council suburbs including Schofields, Marsden Park, Grantham Farm, Quakers Hill, The Ponds and Vineyard.
Send us the basics and we will come out, dig a test hole, check the drainage and give you a fixed written price. The visit costs nothing.
