Starting from a bare block on a new Blacktown estate
Across the north west growth corridor, a new home in estates like The Ponds, Schofields, Marsden Park, Colebee and Ropes Crossing is often handed over with the house finished and the yard left as bare, compacted ground. The good topsoil has usually been stripped or buried during construction, and what remains is heavy Cumberland Plain clay mixed with builder's fill. Establishing a usable garden here is less about tidying an existing space and more about building one from nothing.
That normally means clearing leftover rubble and offcuts, bringing in quality topsoil, breaking up the compacted subsoil so roots and water can move, and setting levels before any turf or planting goes down.
